Why does your cat appear to spend an inordinate amount of the day asleep? And do cats really need so much sleep?
One of the reasons why cats appear to be spending so much time asleep is because in the natural world cats, like other animals, must forage for their food in order to survive, whether this be by hunting, scavenging, or searching. In fact, cats are recognised the world over as highly sophisticated predatory mammals. In order for them to be able to exercise and maintain these skills it’s important that cats get enough rest in-between their killing-fests (be it with toys or real prey) to recharge their batteries.
